President Mary Alice Proffitt was raised in a large family in Atlanta, Georgia and is one of 7 kids. As a child she was always fascinated with Vermont, a place she learned of from reading Tasha Tudor books like “A Time to Keep” while perusing her family library. She now lives in East Calais with her three kids, Tennessee, Sylvia and Ursula Lamb, students at Calais Elementary and U-32.

Mary Alice is a graduate of The University of Virginia and has a diverse professional background working in academia at Yale University, in politics, the world of philanthropy and even in starting and owning her own restaurant, Down Home Kitchen, in nearby Montpelier. For the last few years Mary Alice has worked as a professional mediator and has been studying in the fields of dialogue and communications. She is at heart an entrepreneur and loves having new ideas and watching them come to fruition.

For fun she loves to spend time with her siblings and father back in the South, entertain friends, read, cozy up by the woodstove, swim in #10 Pond, gravel bike the dirt roads and walk the trails of Calais and spend time with her kids and two English Labrador Retrievers, Biscuit and Homer.

Vice President Anna Matheson was raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated from high school in 1996. As a young person, Anna was active in athletics, visual and vocal arts, Girl Scouts, and church youth group and choir. Anna attended Hobart and William Smith Colleges and graduated in 2000 with a B.A. majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Studio Art and History.

Anna has lived in several cities around the country and abroad and has enjoyed a diverse career in both the corporate and non-profit sectors, specializing in end-to-end project management, fundraising and special event coordination. Anna has held positions at the Harvard College Fund, the San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Aramark Corporation, and the Curtis Institute of Music.

In 2008, Anna returned to her roots in Philadelphia and soon after met her future husband, Philip. Anna and Philip settled in the Philadelphia area from 2009 to 2021 and welcomed two children during that time. In May of 2021, Anna and her family moved to Vermont and in November of 2021 settled in Calais. Anna currently works from home for the Neff & Downing Association Management company. In her free time, Anna enjoys traveling, walking, alpine skiing, spending time with family and friends and volunteering in the community.

Secretary Carrie Lewis Stoner grew up in Middlesex and graduated from U-32 in 1992. There she was a 3 season athlete, recipient of the principal’s award and secretary of the student council. After attending the University of New Hampshire and completing her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, she moved to Illinois so her now husband could attend college through his G.I. Bill. 5 years later, they moved back to New Hampshire where Carrie returned to UNH and earned her certificate as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. A house and two children later-- sights were set early to return to Vermont and they did so in 2016.

Life in Calais involves working full time for the University of Vermont Health Network at CVMC as an Infection Preventionist. Her volunteer work has been as the Secretary and President of the Calais Elementary Parent Teacher Neighbor Organization. Carrie helped organize many social and enrichment opportunities for the students of Calais through steadfast organization and planning. This group transitioned into the non-profit Friends of Calais in 2020 and Carrie hopes to bring traditions of the area back for her own children and the community members of Calais.
In her free time, Carrie can be found walking the trails and roads of Calais as well as working in her garden, sugaring in the spring and traveling the country to visit her family.

Treasurer Renée Grzankowski was raised just outside of Boston but spent her summers in Calais, where her extended family has resided for eight generations. After earning a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from Bates College, she held national and international corporate and investment banking positions before convincing her husband, Scott, to leave Wall Street for the dirt road they've now called home since 2008. She is currently the COO of the Vermont Economic Development Authority and a Montpelier Rotarian, but takes most pride in being mom to their three children - Charles (11), William (8) & Ella (8). She is also an active member of the community, serving on local, non-profit boards and coaching youth sports.
